Are You Ready For Your Interview?
Breeders will ask questions like . . .
- Do you now or have you ever had a dog? Other pets?
- What exactly are you looking for? A pet? A show dog?
A dog for obedience or agility training?
- Do you have children? How old are they? If they are pre-schoolers
are you aware of the need to protect a young puppy from their
over-enthusiastic play?
- Who will be taking care of the dog?
- Do you work away from the home? How long are you gone? Do you
realize that being gone for long periods will make it more difficult
to housebreak a puppy? That a lonely/bored dog can become a
destructive dog? Is there someone who could check on the dog during
the day?
- Do you have a fenced yard?
- Do you understand and agree that your pet will have to be
spayed/neutered at your expense?
Difference Between The Sexes
Males tend to be more affectionate and wanting to please than most
females; although of course there are exceptions. Males also tend to
housebreak easier and quicker. Females can often be a little moody,
even after they are spayed. When a family specifies a certain sex, I
always advise them to see what's available without knowing which is
male or female and find the puppy/dog that most appeals to them. Sex
should not be the determining factor any more than color.
